Dr. Giridhar Gomango

Dr. Giridhar Gomango, Chief Minister of Orissa, Odia Poet
Dr. Giridhar Gomango, the Ex-Chief Minister of Orissa was born on 8th April 1943 in Dibrisingi village of Gunupur, Rayagada District. Graduated from Berhampur University and Doctor of Science form Forest Research Institute of Dehradun, he is very fond of tribal culture, folk music and dance. He is also a good musician and folk dancer; Orissa is hugely grateful to Dr. Gomango for carrying out wide automisation of telephone exchanges in the State. He is also a good writer who published two books on Soura Poems and constitutional provisions for SC and STs. He became Chief Minister Orissa from 17th February 1999 to 6th December 1999.


Biography of Dr. Giridhar Gomango:

  • 1972 to 1996: Elected eight consecutive terms to Lok Sabha from Koraput Parliamentary Constituency;
  • 1973-75: Became Member of Estimate Committee;
  • 1977-79: Became Executive Member of CPP;
  • 1978-79: Became Member of Committee on the Welfare of SCs and STs;
  • 1980-82: Became Member of Committee on the Welfare of SCs and STs;
  • 1982-83: He was the Union Deputy Minister for Labor;
  • 1980-84: Became Member of Committee on Official Language;
  • 1982: He was the Union Deputy Minister for Supply and Rehabilitation;
  • 1985-88: He was the Union Deputy Minister, Welfare;
  • 1988: He was the Minister of State for Tourism;
  • 1988-89: He was the Union Minister of State for Communications;
  • 1989 July to December: Independent Charge of Union Minister of State for Communications;
  • 1990: Became Member of Committee on Subordinate Legislation; Library Committee;
  • 1990-91: Became Member of Consultative Committee;
  • 1990-92: Became President of Orissa PCC;
  • 1991-93: Independent Charge of Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries;
  • 1993-95: Independent Charge of Minister of State for Planning and Programmed Implementation;
  • 1995: Became Chairman of Orissa Election Campaign Committee;
  • 1995-96: Independent Charge of Union Minister of State for Mines;
  • 1996: Became Member of AICC;
  • 1996-97 & 1998-99: Became Member of Committee on Communications;
Dr. Giridhar Gomango is a life member of Indian Parliamentary Group and member of Indian Institute of Public Administration and Member and Advisor to many cultural organizations. He is the founder and Director of Patron of Hidden Talent Cultural Troupe at Koraput.
