Shri Hemananda Biswal, Chief Minister of Orissa, Famous persons of Orissa
Shri Hemananda Biswal, the Ex-Chief Minister of Orissa was born on 1st December 1939 to father Basudev Biswal of Thakurpada, Bhalupatna of Sambalpur district. He married to Smt. Urmila Biswal; and has five daughters and one son. Educated up to Intermediate in Arts, he keeps interests in reading political issues in various magazines and pastime in traveling, gardening, photography and gaming. He became Chief Minister of Orissa twice; i.e. from 7th December 1989 to 4th March 1990 and again from 6th December 1999 to 5th March 2000.

Shri Hemananda Biswal was the Organizer of Yubak Sangh, Tribal Welfare Sangh, Athletic Association Dramatic association and Educational Institutions. In 1967 and 1971, He elected as a Chairman to Kirmira Panchayat Samiti and Joined with Congress in 1972. He became Convener of Youth Congress of Kirmira Block and Vice-President of Jharsuguda Land Development Bank from the year 1968 to 1974. He was also a governing Body Member of Jharsuguda L.N. College and Kuchinda College. In year 1974 and 1980 he became Member of the Orissa Assembly from same constituency with congress ticket. He became Chairman of P.U.C. of Assembly from 1981 to 1983 and President of the Sambalpur D.C.C. (I) in 1984-85. Shri Hemananda Biswal was the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare in J. B. Patnaik Ministry from 12-3-1985 to 19-12-1986.
