Shri Naveen Patnaik, son of Ex-Chief Minister Shri Biju Patnaik and Smt. Gyan Patnaik was born on 16th October 1946 at Cuttack. Graduated from St. Stephens College, Delhi University in the year 1967, he is a bachelor who was written many non-fiction books on India, Indian art, culture and history. He is the founder of INTACH, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. After the death of his father Shri Biju Patnaik he decided to enter politics and became Chief Minister of Orissa consecutively three times; i.e. from 5th March 2000 to 15th May 2004, 16th May 2004 to 20th May 2009 and from 21st May 2009 to till date.

Shri Naveen Patnaik is the Founder President of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) who plays a pioneering role in the international identification of Indian design and worked for handloom weavers to expand the domestic market of Indian textiles. His famous books which highly applauded in USA and UK are: ‘A Second Paradise’ on Indian Country life during 1590-1947, ‘A Desert Kingdom’ on the people of Bikaner and ‘The Garden of Life’ introducing on Indian healing plants.

In the year 1996 after the demise of his father and former Chief Minister he entered in to politics and formed BJD, Biju Janata Dal in the year 1998 and elected to Lok Sabha from Aska Constituency in bye-election. In the year 2000
Shri Naveen Patnaik elected from Hinjli Constituency and became Chief Minister of Orissa in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP.  As a member of the 11th Lok Sabha Shri Naveen Patnaik sat on the (1) Consultative Committee of Ministry of Steel & Mines (2) Standing Committee on Commerce and (3) Library Committee of Parliament; due to which he earned reputation and popularity among three fourth regions seats in Orissa and elected thrice consecutively.
