Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo, Orissa King, Freedom Fighter of Orissa,
Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo, the king of Mayurbhanj was born on 17th December of 1870 to the royal family of Mayurbhanj District. He was ascended to throne on 15th August 1892. He was the follower of Pundit Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das and one of the members to create a separate state as Orissa (Odisha) under the leadership of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das.


In his time, Sri Deo did a several social welfare works for the people of Mayurbhanj. He presided over the first session of Utkal Sammilani leaded by Madhubabu in the year 1903. In his statute period, Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo did many changes in respect of health, education, language and administration of Mayurbhanj. He specially made a narrow gauge railway in between Rupsa and Baripada; also he raised more than 400 primary schools in his reign.

In his period of influence, he spent Rs. 6 lac from the royal treasury for creating two reservoirs; one at Haldia and other one at Haladia. Even though Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo was the king of Mayurbhanj but he had a great love for the Odians and dreamt for a separate state for the Odians; which succeed on 1st of April 1936.
