Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das or Madhu Barrister is the first Odia to fetch M.A.B.L. degree from Calcutta University; who was born on 28th April of 1848 to father Choudhuri Raghunath Das and mother Parvati Devi at Satyabhamapur of Cuttack district. Madhusudan Das was the first Odia and Indian Minster who sailed to England and boast as a member of Central Legislative Assembly. He is the creator of modern Orissa (Odisha) differentiated from Bihar and Madras Province. 


Madhusudan Das organized ‘Utkal Sammilani’ after concluding the ‘Utkal Sabha’ in the year 1903 to form a separate state as Orissa, which surrounded with Odia speaking people and Odia culture. He first organized Utkal Union Conference to discuss authorities to create a separate administration for the Odia speaking regions from the three different provinces. He is the pioneer, programmer and guide-liner of formation of the modern Orissa (Odisha). 

On the year 1917, he started publishing a weekly paper ‘The Oriya’ to promote and emphasize the significance of Odia people, who always being loved and appreciated by them. Madhu Babu was selected as the Minister of Self-Government for Bihar and Orissa; however in the year 1923 he resigned from the post on due of some ethical values. 

The National Hero and one of the makers of Modern Orissa, Madhusudan Das took his last breath on 4th of February 1934.
