Astonishingly, the Jagannath Dham Odisha became one of the highest selling state of beer, foreign liquor including local country-made. On Monday at Assembly, on a reply to opposition leader Naba Kishore Das, Excise Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera said the sale of beer in Odisha has increased by 21.23 percent, 2.86 % on foreign liquor 6.85 on country-made liquor comparing to last year.

As per last year report, there were many anti-liquor movements escalated by women in several parts of Odisha. However, instead of protecting and supporting them many women protesters were arrested and jailed. As per the report, 18 cases of anti-liquor operation held at Mayurbhanj district, 11 in Bargarh, 5 in Bargarh and 2 in Jagatsinghpur district.

As per officials saying, women campaigners were arrested due to the ransacking of liquor outlets. It is really miserable to hear about this.
